Volume 1 Coming Back into Print

In 2009 the Boston Comics Roundtable published A Comic Book History of Boston in its Inbound series. That volume, edited by Dave Kender, Dan Mazur, and Shelli Paroline, offered 36 varied stories from everyone’s favorite Hub of the Universe. It quickly sold out at comics shows and shops, making copies hard to come by, even for BCR members.

In 2018 we plan to reprint A Comic Book History of Boston for the first time and to issue an all-new collection of more stories from greater Boston’s past. Look for these books in the fall!

Praise for A Comic Book History of Boston:

“This unconventional account of our city’s history brings a diverse cast of Bostonians to life: sports heroes and serial killers; pirates and punk rockers; founding fathers and favorite sons. An unexpected and delightful assortment of Boston lore!” —Jane Clayson, host of WBUR’s Radio Boston

“The coolest history book of the year. Dozens of artists chose stories from the last three centuries of local history, and they’re compiled together for some easy-reading history.” —Cheap Thrills Boston

“If only your 12th-grade American history book was like…A Comic Book History of Boston, a graphic anthology of memorable events dating from the 1600s to the present” —Sarah Phelan, Beverly Citizen

“A legitimate history book, but presented with comics. . . . It provides a new way of looking at the history of one of the oldest cities in the country.” —Shelly Barclay, “Best Books About Boston,” CBS Boston

“The idiosyncratic nature of the project regarding matters both of widespread interest and Hub-centric fascination is unmistakable and no small hoot.” —Rich Kreiner, The Comics Journal

“It manages to avoid the most common pitfalls of anthology style books; it not only achieves a high level of quality, but is miraculously able to sustain it throughout the project for the most part. . . . this is probably one of the best anthology books I’ve ever read.” —Justin Giampaoli, Thirteen Minutes

“A standout comic” —Boston Magazine
